The research behind the light
Lumiville uses red and near infrared LED light. That technology has been studied in independent peer reviewed research for over two decades. The studies below are on the technology, not on Lumiville products.
How the light works
Red wavelengths around 633nm and near infrared around 830nm are among the most studied wavelengths for the look of skin rejuvenation. Red light targets the upper dermis and the fibroblasts that sit near the surface, while near infrared reaches deeper below the surface. These wavelength descriptions are anchored to the published literature, not to competitor marketing.
The research
- A controlled trial to determine the efficacy of red and near infrared light treatment in patient satisfaction, reduction of fine lines, wrinkles, skin roughness, and intradermal collagen density increasePhotomedicine and Laser Surgery. 2014;32(2):93 to 100
Reported improved skin appearance and increased intradermal collagen density in the treated group.
Funded by a light device maker. Presented here as one piece of published research, not as proof of Lumiville results.
- Low level laser light therapy in skin, stimulating, healing, restoringSeminars in Cutaneous Medicine and Surgery. 2013;32(1):41 to 52
A review of how red and near infrared light is absorbed by the mitochondria in skin cells.
Mechanism and context.
- Regulation of skin collagen metabolism in vitro using a pulsed 660 nm LED light source, clinical correlation with a single blinded studyJournal of Investigative Dermatology. 2009;129(12):2751 to 2759
Reported increased procollagen and visible improvement in wrinkle depth and skin roughness in the human component.
