Your blow-dry, without the booking

The SilkStyle on a towel next to a lipstick and earrings

If you get a blow-dry every week, that's £1,300 a year on hair that's flat by Thursday.

It's 5pm, dinner is at 7, and your hair has gone flat again. You had it done on Tuesday. It looked great when you walked out of the salon, and by Thursday it was lying flat against your head.

Now you're standing at the mirror with a hairdryer in one hand and a round brush in the other. Your arms are aching before you've finished the first side, and the back never looks right because you can't see it.

So you do what you always do. You pin it up, or you book another blow-dry.

This is not your fault

A salon blow-dry is two hands, a round brush and someone standing behind you. You have two hands and a mirror. Nobody can hold a brush, aim a dryer and see the back of their own head at the same time.

It's not your hair. It's the tools.

What you've already tried, and what it costs

Most of us have tried every way round this.

  • The salon blow-dry. Blow-dry bars in London start from about £25. Many salons charge £40 or more. In Dublin, the big chains start from about €31.
  • Once a week. At £25 a time, that is £1,300 a year, for hair that lasts until the next wash. In Dublin, at €31 a time, it's over €1,600.
  • The dryer and round brush at home. Cheap to buy, hard on your arms, and the back is still a guess.
  • A drawer full of tools. A dryer, a straightener and a curling tong mean three cables and three things to heat up, and none of them gives you volume at the root.

Why the old way keeps you paying

A blow-dry is not something you buy once. It is something you rent. It lasts until you wash your hair, and then you pay again.

The salon is not the problem. Needing the salon every week is.

What you actually need

  • One handle, not three tools.
  • Lift at the root without wrestling a round brush.
  • Smooth ends without clamping hot plates on your hair.
  • Something you can use on the back of your head without seeing it.
  • A way to redo it on day three, before work, in your own bathroom.

How the SilkStyle works

The SilkStyle dries and styles with warm air. You choose a head, click it on, and work section by section.

Woman styling her hair at home with the SilkStyle

  • Drying nozzle to take wet hair to damp.
  • Round volume brush to lift at the root. Brush and warm air are in one hand, so the other hand is free to hold the section.
  • Smoothing brush to finish the lengths, with no plates to clamp.
  • Two auto-wrap curl barrels for soft waves. The air wraps the section around the barrel for you.

Everything comes in the box: one handle, five heads and one cable, with a UK plug for the UK and Ireland.

What's in the box: the SilkStyle and its five heads

Why the SilkStyle, and not something else

  • Against the weekly salon visit: you pay once instead of every week, and you style it when it suits you, not when there's a free slot.
  • Against the dryer and round brush: the brush and the warm air are in one hand, so your other hand holds the section and your arms get a rest.
  • Against a straightener and tongs: warm air instead of hot plates, and one tool instead of three.
  • Against buying blind: change your mind within 14 days, or if it's faulty within 60 days, we refund you. For a fault, you don't need to send it back.

What it can't do

We would rather tell you now than have you find out later.

  • It won't change a cut you don't like. It styles the hair you have.
  • Your first go will be slower than a stylist. Expect a few tries to learn which head suits which part of your hair.
  • It uses warm air, so it styles more gently than hot plates. If you want a poker-straight, glass finish, a straightener does that better.
  • It has a UK plug. It is made for the UK and Ireland.

What to expect

How to use the SilkStyle in four steps

The first time: take it slowly. Use the drying nozzle first, then the volume brush. Don't try every head at once.

The first couple of weeks: you learn your routine, which head for the root, which for the ends and how big a section works for you.

After that: Friday's blow-dry is something you do at home, before your coffee goes cold. And when it drops on day three, you redo it before work instead of booking again.

Changed your mind, or something is wrong?

Changed your mind? Tell us within 14 days of delivery and send it back unused for a full refund. If it arrives faulty or damaged, or stops working within 60 days, send us a photo and we refund you in full. You don't need to send it back.

The SilkStyle costs about the same as two salon blow-dries. After that, every blow-dry is one you didn't pay for.

Keep it all together with the Travel Set

The SilkStyle Travel Set: SilkStyle and StyleCase

Five heads are easy to lose in a drawer. The StyleCase is a zip case that keeps the handle and your favourite heads together, at home or in your suitcase. In the SilkStyle Travel Set it costs only a little more than the SilkStyle on its own.

Buying for two? The SilkStyle Duo gives you two SilkStyles for less than two bought separately, so one can go to a sister, a daughter or a friend.

The SilkStyle is £53 in the UK and €61.95 in Ireland. Free tracked delivery to both, 14 days to change your mind, and 60 days if it's faulty.
